Music & Performing Arts
The Music programme at Shrewsbury has been designed to inspire, connect, and engage in recognition that our understanding and appreciation of music impacts upon health and happiness as well as achievement.
Through carefully designed classes and an extensive co-curricular programme, students gain the skills and confidence to perform, compose, and relate to music in ways that benefit both their academic and personal development. Music provides a sense of connection, creativity, and well-being.
Our Approach to Music Education
At the heart of our curriculum are three interrelated strands:
- Listening and Responding – Developing auditory skills and a deeper emotional connection with music.
- Musical Development – Building technical ability and creative expression across a range of instruments and genres.
- Performing and Appraising – Gaining confidence through rehearsal, performance, and evaluation.
All students from Early Years through to Year 8* participate in weekly music and choral lessons. Our experienced music teachers provide opportunities to:
- Play a wide range of instruments appropriate to their stage of development.
- Explore pitch, melody, and rhythm.
- Understand the cultural and historical context of the music they study.
Performance Opportunities
At Shrewsbury Hong Kong, performing is an important part of school life. Our choirs, ensembles, and orchestras conduct performances throughout the year, both at school and in the community.
