Key Stages
Learning at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong is closely aligned with the English National Curriculum, a programme of study arranged into phases called Key Stages.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Students enter the Early Years at the age of 3. Play underpins the delivery of our EYFS curriculum. Through play, students shape and explore experiences and interactions which help them to make sense of the world and develop the characteristics required to learn and engage effectively, actively and creatively. The EY curriculum enables students to develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally.
Seven areas of learning underpin provision:
- Communication & Language
- Personal Social & Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive Arts & Design
- Understanding & World
EYFS students enjoy access to the full breadth of facilities on campus and are often given freedom to choose the spaces in which they would like to learn.
Key Stage 1 (KS1) & Key Stage 2 (KS2)
Students enter Key Stage 1 at the age of 5 and Key Stage 2 at the age of 7.
The KS1 and KS2 curriculum equips students with a broad and balanced understanding of the world and the strong academic skills and attributes that will allow them to thrive in young adulthood and beyond. A rigorous focus on the acquisition of powerful knowledge ensures that students are able to think critically, purposefully and positively.
Fundamental to our approach is a belief that every child can achieve through practice, dedication and hard work.
