Home Learning

Home learning in Primary School is part of our wider partnership with parents. We work closely to identify meaningful ways in which we can work together to support the progress of children.

Reading is perhaps the most important activity for children to enjoy outside of school. At Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong, all students are expected to read keenly, widely and regularly.

Additional Home Learning assignments serve to develop independence. They provide an opportunity for children to rehearse skills or reapply knowledge and complement or reinforce learning undertaken at school. As students move towards Year 6, they are expected to dedicate an increasing amount of time to their studies at home.

While we expect families to support and value work undertaken, providing an environment that is safe and free from distraction, we also emphasise the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Home learning activities should therefore be complemented by an appropriate amount of sleep, good nutrition and a routine that includes plenty of opportunity for rest, relaxation and fun!
