Key Stage 2

Learning at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong is closely aligned with the English National Curriculum, a programme of study arranged into phases called Key Stages - the second contains four year groups: Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.

Children enter Key Stage 2 at the age of 7. During this phase of their learning they refine and apply their knowledge and understanding, while developing skills which enable them to lead, create and direct effectively.

Classes in Key Stage 2 run between 8:00 and 15:00 (download timetable) - they contain an average number of 20 students and a maximum capacity of 24. Our highly skilled teachers work closely and collaboratively to ensure that students are engaged, motivated and inspired to maximise their potential.

THEMATIC CURRICULUM

In order to encourage interconnected thinking, the curriculum at Shrewsbury has been arranged thematically. This means that learning in English, Mathematics, Science, Chinese, Physical Education, Music, Humanities, Computing, Drama, Art, Design and Citizenship is often interwoven within units of study lasting approximately six weeks. Themes have been selected to ensure that our talented, multilingual student body learn immersively and at depth.

The majority of lessons taught to students in Key Stage 2 are delivered by an assigned Class Teacher who plans carefully to maximise potential and secure continuous progress for every child.
