Interactive Talk by author Joanna Grochowicz

Due to the likelihood of further disruption to the travel network next week, we have decided to postpone our upcoming Interactive Talk with Joanna Grochowicz.

Please join us for an exciting interactive evening talk by author Joanna Grochowicz as she brings to life the historic exploits of rival Antarctic explorers Scott and Amundsen, depicted in her acclaimed books "Into the White" and "Amundsen's Way".

"The courage and accomplishments of the men of the Terra Nova expedition should not fade into insignificance," Joanna enthuses. "There is much to celebrate in this astonishing story of human grit."

Joanna's sessions are highly interactive, featuring some of the basic clothing these early explorers wore in bitterly cold conditions, the tools they used, the animals they took with them, as well as fantastic photos taken at the time and during the author's own trips to Antarctica. The parallel stories of Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen and their teams, who ended up competing against one another in a bid to be the first to reach the South Pole back in 1910-13, inspire both courage and empathy. They remind us of the importance of pursuing one's passion however challenging, learning to work as a team to attempt something no one else had done, to cope with disappointment (Scott's team failed) and to 'win' with grace (Amundsen's team reached the South Pole first).
A gifted storyteller, Joanna takes us back in time to relive the thrilling experience of making the last great unchartered expedition on earth! In addition, parents will receive practical advice on how to get your children excited about reading books.

Location: Library, Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong
Date: Monday, 18th November
Time: 6:00 to 7:00 pm

For interested parents we will also offer a tour of the campus with our Principal, Mr Ben Keeling after the Talk.
