A SHREWSBURY STORY: SEBASTIAN'S FAMILY

Keen to learn more about our incredible community, we speak to a Shrewsbury family every month to find out about their journey, their aspiration and their hopes for the future. This month is the turn of Sebastian's Family - this is their story:

When did your family join the Shrewsbury community and what were the most important factors in your decision to enrol Sebastian at Shrewsbury?

Sebastian joined Shrewsbury shortly before it opened in August 2018. He is now in Year 3, having recently begun his fifth year. While the facilities at Shrewsbury are outstanding, it’s the people that make Shrewsbury distinctly different. My engagements with the team have been positive and professional without exception and I have never encountered a leadership team as dedicated, honest, and devoted to children's wellbeing as I have here.

During his time at Shrewsbury, Sebastian has transitioned from an Early Years phase into Primary School and from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 - how have you been supported on this journey?

While I know that the management of a child’s journey through school is a common concern for parents, ours has been seamless. High quality communication and guidance prior, during and after each transition has allowed us to look forward with excitement and optimism. Sebastian’s enthusiasm for school grows stronger with every passing year as new opportunities and experiences open up to him.

As the Chair of the Shrewsbury Parents Association (SPA), what can prospective parents expect from the school community and what opportunities are there for them to get involved?

Shrewsbury parents are kind, welcoming and supportive - and the SPA draws gratefully upon the energy and commitment of a wonderfully diverse group. Members are often in touch with new families prior to arrival to ensure that new mums, dads and children develop a strong support network quickly and everyone is welcome to participate and support a calendar of events that has grown considerably over the years.

What do you enjoy most about life in Hong Kong and what do you like to do in your spare time?

We arrived in Hong Kong when Sebastian was only 6 months old, so he doesn't know life anywhere else. We live in Sai Kung and enjoy the physical, linguistic and cultural diversity that the region has to offer. I feel both humbled and enriched by the life we enjoy in Hong Kong - there aren’t many places in the world that can offer such privilege.
