Shrewsbury students and staff from across the world have come together in song thanks to a virtual choir project led by the Music department here in Hong Kong.
The culmination of grand collaboration spread over several weeks, it is the first occasion on which all four campus have combined and arrives at a particularly challenging time in the lives of students worldwide.
“Singing together has many proven benefits. It improves well-being by lowering stress levels and helps to keep us connected with others. Following a highly disrupted year, the quality of relationships we share is more important than ever." Mr Euan Kilpatrick, Head of Music, Hong Kong
Singing, musicality and performance have taken a prominent position at the heart of a Shrewsbury education for many generations. The Virtual Choir project has inspired international connection. Featuring contributions from both Shropshire (UK) and Bangkok (Thailand) as well as those collected a little closer to home, performance centred upon the song ‘Sing a Rainbow’ by Arthur Hamilton. A well known tun, it offers a message of hope and optimism.
“City Campus was delighted to take part in the Virtual Choir Project. ‘Sing a Rainbow’ has brought so much joy to our children, and their parents and teachers. It has been wonderful to be part of a cross-campus, cross-country, celebratory sing!” Miss Sarah Bull, Music Teacher, Bangkok
