Year 5 and 6 Pantomime

Parents were effusive in their praise of an ambitious digital pantomime presentation from students in Year 5 and 6 this year, as the performing arts programme at Shrewsbury made a triumphant statement at the start of a busy festive period.

Centred upon the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk, the performance was reimagined due to social distancing constraints thanks to the imagination and fortitude of Head of Music, Mr Euan Kilpatrick.

“Developing a digital production with limited cast interaction certainly presented an interesting challenge, but we were committed to ensuring that students still benefited from the opportunity to practically develop their story telling skills.”
Mr Euan Kilpatrick, Head of Music

“Students brought colour, warmth and good humour, but an upbeat performance often belies the underlying commitment required to deliver at such fine tempo - their determination to deliver was inspired and I am grateful to everyone involved for continuing to secure a broad range of outstanding experiences in spite of the environmental challenges we face.”
Mr Ben Keeling, Principal

Students involved in the production were invited to a special premiere showing shortly before a live broadcast was shared with all other members of the community. It was the first time that anyone had seen the full running order and direct interaction between the characters involved.

“Just when you think it can’t get any better, they raise the bar again. Huge thanks to Mr Kilpatrick and congratulations to all of the students involved. We loved it!”
Raymond, Year 6 Parent
