Charles Darwin Science Competition
Shrewsbury students emerged victorious following the inaugural hosting of the annual inter-school Charles Darwin Science Competition earlier this term.
Named after the famed naturalist, geologist and Old Salopian and hosted by Science Coordinator Jessie Whitworth, students from Australian International School, Kellett and Nord Anglia journeyed through several rounds of practical examination.
‘We were thrilled with the uptake of an invitation to a competition that we hope will only grow in prominence from this point forward. It’s important that we promote engagement with the natural world, celebrate the achievements of young people and provide an opportunity for them to compete.’
Jessie Whitworth, Shrewsbury Science Coordinator
An assessment of general knowledge preceded density calculations and PH testing during what proved to be a stimulating morning of exploration. More schools are expected to join next year.
‘A Shrewsbury education has always instilled a pioneering spirit and it is with this acknowledged that I share my delight at the launch of what has proven to be a greatly enriching enterprise for all participants.’
Ben Keeling, Shrewsbury Principal
