Shrewsbury Hong Kong Strengthens Regional Ties Through FOBISIA Maths Conference
Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong successfully concluded its hosting of the FOBISIA Primary Maths conference on 14th and 15th November, bringing together distinguished mathematics educators from across Asia. The conference, focused on “Primary Maths JAWS – Developing reasoning and problem-solving skills to create outstanding mathematics,” served as a platform for advancing mathematical pedagogy across the region.
The two-day professional development gathering enabled specialists from leading international institutions to exchange innovative teaching methodologies and explore strategies for enhancing critical thinking in young mathematicians. The JAWS framework provided a structured approach to developing deeper conceptual understanding and moving pupils toward genuine mathematical proficiency.
Participating schools included Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong, Kellett School, Discovery Bay International School, The British School Manila, Prince of Wales Island International School, Jerudong International School, and The International School @ ParkCity KL. The diverse representation fostered rich discussions and shared learning opportunities across different educational contexts.
Through a series of workshops and collaborative sessions, educators examined practical approaches to cultivating problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning. The programme emphasised creating classroom environments that challenge pupils to think critically and apply mathematical concepts creatively.

“Hosting this FOBISIA event reflects our commitment to leading professional dialogue within the international school community,” said Ellie W, Key Stage 1 Leader. “The collaboration and knowledge sharing among these outstanding educators will ultimately enhance learning outcomes for pupils throughout the region, including here at Shrewsbury Hong Kong.”
The conference reinforced Shrewsbury Hong Kong’s active role in the FOBISIA network and its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of mathematics education. The event also provided valuable opportunities for Shrewsbury’s educators to engage with regional counterparts and strengthen professional relationships across the international school community.
