Home Learning

Home learning in Primary School is undertaken as part of a wider partnership with parents that recognises the positive impact of home-school collaboration.

Home Learning assignments encourage the development of independence, confidence and self-discipline alongside a spirit of enquiry, curiosity and investigation. They provide an opportunity for children to rehearse skills or reapply knowledge and complement or reinforce learning undertaken at school. Shrewsbury students are expected to read keenly, widely and regularly both at and beyond their time on campus in recognition that our academic objectives can only be achieved if children read well, deeply and often.

While we expect families to support and value work undertaken, providing an environment that is safe and free from distraction, we also emphasise the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Home learning activities should therefore be complemented by an appropriate amount of sleep, good nutrition and a routine that includes plenty of opportunity for rest, relaxation and fun.
